Standing on the Shoulders of Giants is a performance that plays with the folk traditions of Belgium and Brazil. It is inspired by the Modern Art Week (Semana de Arte Moderna) at the Municipal Theater of São Paulo in 1922. Marking the birth of modernism, this landmark event brought together dance, music and poetry performances, sculptures, paintings and lectures. Influenced by European avant-garde movements, the participating artists re-examined the past to discover Brazil's uniqueness, especially its mixed ethnicities and cultures.

In 1971, eight years after Robert Filliou's proclamation of Art's Birthday, the Movimento Armorial was inaugurated in Brazil to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Northeast region of the country. Today, as a tribute to this tradition and her own origins, Braga invited forró dancers and tambourine players in custom-made outfits, colorful and extravagant. A monumental dress ironically mimics the aesthetic of a birthday cake with images of works by established Belgian artists. As part of the performance, Braga reads Manuel Mandeira's 1919 poem "The Toads," written as a statement against the modernist doctrine of art for art's sake.
